Mathematics is the art of giving the same name to
different things. Pure mathematics, in its way is the poetry of logical ideas. Without mathematics, there’s nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers. Mathematics as an expression of the human mind reflects the active will, the contemplative reason, and the desire for aesthetic perfection. Its basic elements are logic and intuition, analysis and construction, generality and individuality. We will always have STEM with us. Some things will drop out of the public eye and will go away, but there will always be science, engineering, and technology. And there will always, always be mathematics.
Mathematics has beauty and romance. It’s not a boring place to be, the mathematical world. It’s an extraordinary place; it’s worth spending time there.

I can assure you mine are still greater. If a man’s wit be wandering, let him study the mathematics. If I were again beginning my studies, I would follow the advice of Plato and start with mathematics. Mathematics is a place where you can do things which you can’t do in the real world.
